USU Faculty of Forestry Lecturer and German alumnus, Dr. Ir. Pindi Patana, S.Hut., M.Sc., IPU, participated in the International Workshop “Transforming Biotechnology and Agriculture: Bridging Biodiversity and Digital Innovation for Natural Sustainability”.

After participating in the welcoming ceremony at USU Campus I, new students proceeded to their respective faculties. Upon arriving at the Faculty of Forestry USU, they were warmly and enthusiastically welcomed by the committee as they began their journey into university life.

The Rain Forest Student Activity Unit (UKM Rain Forest) of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), officially inaugurated the Arkasena Cabinet for the 2026/2027 term on Monday (August 10, 2026), at USU Kwala Bekala Campus 2. The inauguration carried the theme, “Bringing New Light to Leadership, Strengthening Synergy, and Realizing Sustainable Change.”

During the event, Innovation and Incubation Manager Imam Bagus Sumantri, S.Farm., M.Si., presented a session entitled “Transforming Research Outcomes into Globally Impactful Innovations and Economic Value.” The presentation covered research funding opportunities, applied research development, patents, product commercialization, reputable publications, and collaboration with industry and international partners.

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is developing Lau Buluh Lepar as an ecotourism village in the Leuser buffer zone by integrating natural resource conservation, agroforestry, food security, and community empowerment. One of the activities held as part of the program launch was the establishment of a lubuk larangan, a locally managed no-fishing zone based on the community’s traditional wisdom for conserving aquatic resources.

During the meeting, the committee thoroughly reviewed and discussed the PKKMB schedule, including the series of activities, task assignments, technical preparations, and various supporting requirements throughout the event.

The contribution also came from an education staff member of the USU Faculty of Forestry, Nur Hidayat, S.Hut., M.Si., who served as a speaker by presenting research entitled “Analysis of the Correlation between Vegetation Indices and Tree Health along the Greenways of Medan City Center.” This involvement represents an important step in expanding the role of education staff in supporting scientific activities and knowledge development in the fields of forestry and the environment.

The symposium, themed “Harmonizing Development and the Environment through Tree Management and Replacement,” served as a forum for exchanging ideas and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to promote more planned and sustainable urban tree management.

In the new executive board, Dodi Sepryo Sembiring was appointed as Chairperson of HIMAS USU for the 2026/2027 period, accompanied by Irmaellin Siallagan as Secretary and Dinda Dwi Ramadhani as Treasurer. Meanwhile, the Members’ Representative Council (DPA) is led by Roy Nainggolan, with members Ilham Afandi, Stevan Pedro Sinaga, Fadhlan Azhari Sitorus, and Andre Dolly Situmorang, who are responsible for overseeing the organization’s activities in accordance with its Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART).

Advancing to the Grand Final is a proud achievement that demonstrates the enthusiasm of students in the USU Forestry Study Program to develop creativity and innovation relevant to the challenges of sustainable development. The achievement also reflects the role of higher education in encouraging young people to develop ideas that are not only innovative but also create value and positive impacts for the environment and society.
