The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) participated in the Urban Tree Management Symposium held on Monday (August 10, 2026) at the Theater Room, 2nd Floor, FISIP USU Dean’s Building, Medan. Representing the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., the Vice Dean II, Dr. Ir. Luthfi Hakim, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng., attended the event as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration toward sustainable urban tree management.

The symposium carried the theme “Harmonizing Development and the Environment through Tree Management and Replacement.” The forum provided an opportunity to exchange ideas while strengthening synergy among stakeholders in promoting more systematic and sustainable urban tree management.
The participation of the Faculty of Forestry USU reflected the university’s commitment to contributing to efforts to address environmental challenges in urban areas. Urban trees serve not only as elements of green infrastructure but also play important ecological roles in maintaining environmental quality and supporting community well-being.

Through its expertise in forestry, the Faculty of Forestry USU continues to emphasize the importance of urban vegetation management that takes into account ecological considerations, sustainability, and development needs. Collaboration among academics, government institutions, and various stakeholders is essential to maintaining urban trees amid the continued development of urban areas.
This participation also strengthens the Faculty of Forestry USU’s contribution to sustainable development, particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 15: Life on Land.
Through this forum, the Faculty of Forestry USU is expected to continue contributing to knowledge-based solutions for creating greener, more comfortable, and more sustainable cities for communities and future generations.
