SMKI 2025 brings together young foresters from 48 universities in Medan to discuss climate change, forest governance, FoLU Net Sink 2030, and the future of Indonesian forestry.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held an Inhouse Training on Scientific Writing for forestry students on October 15, 2025. The event featured three speakers — Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto, Dr. Kansih Sri Hartini, and Dr. Agr. Faujiah Nurhasanah Ritonga — who delivered materials on writing guidelines, research idea exploration, and the use of academic digital tools. Through this training, students are expected to develop the ability to produce high-quality scientific papers that positively impact the forestry field.

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through its Community Service (PPM) program for Fostered Villages, conducted a composting workshop in Simangulampe Village, Humbahas. The activity encouraged local residents to process water hyacinth from Lake Toba into organic fertilizer as a solution to limited farmland and post-flood recovery.

ECOREST is a USU student initiative to address conservation challenges in the Batang Toru Forest. Through four main pillars—Eco-Learn, Responsible Action, Sustainable Solution, and Transformation—the program connects indigenous communities, youth, and government to jointly protect the forest while preserving culture.

The USU Faculty of Forestry held a Prophet’s Mawlid study with the theme “Emulating the Noble Morals of Prophet Muhammad SAW in Campus Life” with Dr. Rudiawan Sitorus at An-Nur Mosque on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The event served as an important reflection on embodying the Prophet’s morals to build a harmonious campus life.

The USU Faculty of Forestry public lecture on bioprospecting and conservation business opportunities featured national and international experts, discussing the role of bioprospecting as a bridge between conservation and sustainable economic opportunities.

The USU Faculty of Forestry, together with Green Justice Indonesia, held the National HHBK Seminar discussing the potential of the green economy and forest conservation, along with an exhibition of sustainable non-timber forest products.

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) collaborated with the women’s PKK group of Simalingkar A Village in a goose farming program as an effort to support food security and empower family economies at the village level.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Seminar & Talkshow “Scientific Exploration of Natural Dyes and Fibers: From Laboratory to Industry” featuring an exhibition of natural yarns and fabrics as well as an Edu-Trip to CV. Kriya Melayu. This event opened new insights into the use of natural fibers and dyes in eco-friendly creative industries.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), carried out an international community service program by planting mangroves in Beras Basah, Langkat. This program aims to protect coastal ecosystems while raising public awareness of the importance of environmental conservation.
