HUMAS FAHUTAN– Efforts to improve the quality of infrastructure in the Campus 2 Kwala Bekala area continue to be carried out to support the smooth implementation of academic activities and the mobility of the academic community. One of the activities undertaken was the asphalt paving of the bridge along the access road leading to Campus 2 Kwala Bekala, Simalingkar, which took place on Saturday (13/6/2026).
The paving activity received direct attention from the leadership of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Prof. Arida Susilowati, together with the Vice Deans, namely Dr. Tito Sucipto, Dr. Luthfi Hakim, and Dr. Anita Zaitunah, conducted a site visit to observe and monitor the implementation of the paving work.
The visit reflected the faculty leadership’s commitment to ensuring that the infrastructure improvement process proceeded properly and provided optimal benefits for all road users accessing the Campus 2 Kwala Bekala area. Adequate road and bridge infrastructure is an important factor in supporting the smooth implementation of education, research, and community service activities carried out within the campus environment.
The asphalt paving process proceeded smoothly and according to the established plan. Several hours after completion, the road surface on the bridge was once again usable, and access to Campus 2 Kwala Bekala resumed normal operation. This condition allowed the activities of the academic community as well as members of the public passing through the area to continue without significant disruption.
The improvement of road access to Campus 2 Kwala Bekala is expected to provide greater comfort and safety for road users while supporting the development of the campus area as a representative center for academic activities, research, and environmental conservation.
Through this monitoring activity, the Faculty of Forestry USU demonstrated its commitment to continuously supporting the provision of quality facilities and infrastructure to support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Good infrastructure is expected to create a safer, more comfortable, and more conducive campus environment for all members of the academic community in carrying out various academic and student activities.
This infrastructure improvement activity through the asphalt paving of the access bridge to Campus 2 Kwala Bekala is in line with Universitas Sumatera Utara’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The availability of safe, comfortable, and high-quality facilities and infrastructure supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by creating a more conducive learning environment for students, lecturers, and educational staff. In addition, the development and maintenance of sustainable campus infrastructure also support SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the provision of facilities that support education, research, and innovation activities. Furthermore, the development of access to Campus 2 Kwala Bekala, which serves as an educational area and forestry field laboratory, contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by improving accessibility and road user safety. This commitment demonstrates the Faculty of Forestry USU’s ongoing efforts to create an inclusive, safe, resilient campus environment that supports the optimal implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
In addition, the presence of good infrastructure in the Campus 2 Kwala Bekala area supports the sustainable management of the forestry education area, thereby contributing to SDG 15 (Life on Land) through strengthening the campus area's function as a space for learning, research, and sustainable forest resource conservation. With improved access, various forestry education activities, field research, conservation programs, and community service initiatives can be carried out more effectively and optimally.
