Conservation Camp 5 is an annual field activity for students of the Forest Resource Conservation Interest at the USU Faculty of Forestry. It will be held on 21–23 November 2025 at the USU Ecolodge Rantau Panjang, Bahorok.
This practitioner lecture featured a BRIN researcher introducing the potential of palm from utilization and development perspectives. The session provided students with an opportunity to learn directly from an expert and deepen their understanding of non-timber forest products.
The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FAHUTAN USU), initiated the Forestry Generation Showcase and Forest Youthverse as a strategic platform for students and young people to present innovations, ideas, and concrete actions in addressing forestry challenges, climate change, and the achievement of the SDGs.
USU students developed ECOWPOT, a biodegradable pot made from cow dung and bamboo shavings, as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic polybags for mangrove nurseries in Tanjung Rejo Village. This innovation is not only environmentally friendly but also empowers coastal communities.
The USU Faculty of Forestry conducted an educational visit and field practicum to PT Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL) to deepen students’ understanding of forest pest management, nursery practices, and the pulp industry directly in the field.
The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held the Academic and Student Talk (BADAK) event in the Undergraduate Thesis Supervisor Selection Series as a platform for students to understand the process and strategies of selecting thesis supervisors aligned with their research interests.
The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), together with the Labuhanbatu Utara Research and Development Agency, presented a strategic study on mangrove management. The study revealed more than 42 km of coastal erosion, the loss of 330 ha of land, and proposed rehabilitation and silvofishery strategies.
The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Workshop on Updating the Undergraduate Forestry Curriculum to strengthen an adaptive and relevant OBE- and MBKM-based curriculum that supports ASIIN international accreditation. This activity serves as a strategic step toward globally competitive forestry education that has real impacts on society and environmental sustainability.
