HUMAS FAHUTAN – The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), officially sent off 145 students participating in the Forest Ecosystem Introduction Field Practice (P2EH) on Friday, June 26, 2026. The send-off ceremony was held at 7:00 a.m. WIB at the Pancasila Building, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Padang Bulan Campus, Medan, marking the beginning of the students' journey to the field practice site in Tangkahan.
The ceremony was attended by several lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry, including the Vice Dean for Finance and Resources, Dr. Luthfi Hakim, who delivered guidance and words of encouragement to the students before their departure. The presence of the Faculty members reflected the institution's commitment to ensuring that students were well prepared for their field-based learning experience.
A total of 145 students will participate in the Forest Ecosystem Introduction Field Practice (P2EH) over ten days, from June 26 to July 5, 2026. The program forms an integral part of the Faculty's field-based learning curriculum, providing students with firsthand experience in studying the characteristics of forest ecosystems, understanding conservation principles, and developing practical observation and analytical skills.
Through the P2EH program, students are expected to integrate the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with real-world field conditions. In addition to enriching their academic understanding, the field practice serves as an opportunity to develop technical competencies, teamwork, and a strong commitment to the conservation and sustainable management of forest resources.
The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, hopes that the entire P2EH program will be conducted smoothly and safely while providing meaningful learning experiences for all participants. The knowledge and experience gained during the field practice are expected to strengthen the students' competencies as future forestry professionals with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
The program also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing experiential learning that enhances students' competencies in forestry, and SDG 15: Life on Land, by strengthening students' understanding of and commitment to the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems.
