The USU Faculty of Forestry celebrated its 11th Anniversary and 26 Years of the Forestry Study Program under the theme “Like Roots: Though Unseen, Continually Impacting.” The event was held at the USU Bekala Campus and attended by university leadership, government representatives, strategic partners, and hundreds of academic community members as a commitment to education and sustainable natural resource management.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FAHUTAN USU), initiated the Forestry Generation Showcase and Forest Youthverse as a strategic platform for students and young people to present innovations, ideas, and concrete actions in addressing forestry challenges, climate change, and the achievement of the SDGs.

USU students developed ECOWPOT, a biodegradable pot made from cow dung and bamboo shavings, as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic polybags for mangrove nurseries in Tanjung Rejo Village. This innovation is not only environmentally friendly but also empowers coastal communities.

The USU Faculty of Forestry conducted an educational visit and field practicum to PT Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL) to deepen students’ understanding of forest pest management, nursery practices, and the pulp industry directly in the field.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held the Academic and Student Talk (BADAK) event in the Undergraduate Thesis Supervisor Selection Series as a platform for students to understand the process and strategies of selecting thesis supervisors aligned with their research interests.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), together with the Labuhanbatu Utara Research and Development Agency, presented a strategic study on mangrove management. The study revealed more than 42 km of coastal erosion, the loss of 330 ha of land, and proposed rehabilitation and silvofishery strategies.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Workshop on Updating the Undergraduate Forestry Curriculum to strengthen an adaptive and relevant OBE- and MBKM-based curriculum that supports ASIIN international accreditation. This activity serves as a strategic step toward globally competitive forestry education that has real impacts on society and environmental sustainability.

The research team from the Center for Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation Studies (Puska PIMB) of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, served as speakers in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) organized by Bappenas to formulate national policy recommendations toward disaster-resilient and sustainable climate development by 2045.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Workshop on Updating the Curriculum of the Master’s Program in Forestry with the theme “Locally Excellent and Globally Impactful Curriculum” on Thursday, October 23, 2025, virtually via Zoom Meeting. This activity serves as a strategic step in designing an adaptive curriculum that is globally competitive and relevant to current forestry challenges.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), marked a proud achievement with the inauguration of four lecturers as permanent professors. This inauguration reaffirms the faculty’s commitment to strengthening sustainable forestry research and innovation toward an impactful research university.
