The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), is organizing a Tree Planting Movement in commemoration of World Environment Day 2026. This initiative invites members of the academic community and the public to participate in a meaningful greening action that supports a greener and more sustainable environment.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), welcomed international students participating in the AIESEC program on Wednesday (June 3). The participants came from Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Thailand, and Sri Lanka as part of a cultural exchange and learning initiative focused on environmental issues and sustainable natural resource management.

During the meeting, Zulqarnain presented various initiatives undertaken by EIS in the effort to rediscover the Aceh flycatcher (Cyornis ruckii). This endemic bird species, also known as Rück’s Blue Flycatcher, has long been considered missing due to the absence of verified records of its existence for several decades.

The Beyond The Loom workshop will showcase innovations in Malay weaving tools, the exploration of sustainable natural fibers, weaving demonstrations and hands-on practice, as well as discussions with academics and industry practitioners. The event is open to the public and free of charge, with limited participant capacity.

The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), together with PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) and Perum Jasa Tirta I (PJT I), discussed the development of tissue culture technology and vegetative propagation as solutions to support the rehabilitation of the Lake Toba area. This collaboration is expected to strengthen ecosystem restoration efforts and promote sustainable environmental management.

The Faculty of Forestry, USU once again hosted its Practitioner Teaching Program by involving PT Sucofindo Medan Branch. The activity provided students with practical insights into laboratory operations, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and the implementation of ISO/IEC 17025 standards to enhance their professional competencies.

Dr. Iwan Risnasari, S.Hut., M.Si. from the Faculty of Forestry Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully secured the 2026 National Collaborative Community Service Program through an ecoprint technology innovation based on local flora to support sustainable community empowerment and entrepreneurship.

The Faculty of Forestry Universitas Sumatera Utara continues the Guest Practitioner Program for the Even Semester of Academic Year 2025/2026 by inviting a speaker from PT Sucofindo Medan Branch to discuss industrial laboratory practices and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS).

The Forest Management Student Association (FORMASA) of the Faculty of Forestry Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully organized the GreenShift Forum 2026 seminar, discussing climate change, environmental technology, and sustainable forest management as efforts to enhance students’ knowledge and innovation spirit in forestry studies.
