The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), carried out an international community service program by planting mangroves in Beras Basah, Langkat. This program aims to protect coastal ecosystems while raising public awareness of the importance of environmental conservation.

The USU Faculty of Forestry held multipurpose tree planting at KHDTK Pondok Buluh 2025 to support food security and environmental conservation.

The community service program titled The Potential of Multipurpose Tree Species (MPTs) in Agroforestry Planting Patterns at Pondok Buluh Simalungun is held in Pondok Buluh Village, Simalungun, from August to October 2025. Through the planting of multipurpose trees in the agroforestry area of the Special Purpose Forest Area, this program supports food security while maintaining environmental sustainability.

The USU Faculty of Forestry held training on the use of multifunction bamboo saws and the application of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for bamboo craftsmen in Sirpang Sigodang Village, Simalungun. The training aimed to improve product quality while ensuring work safety.

The USU Faculty of Forestry successfully organized the International World Top Scientist Seminar with Prof. Xu Weihua (Chinese Academy of Sciences) on September 3, 2025. The seminar discussed the importance of protected areas for biodiversity and ecosystem services, and served as an inspiring platform for students to learn directly from a world-renowned conservation expert.

The Center of Excellence for Bamboo Science and Technology (PUI-Bamboo) Universitas Sumatera Utara held its first international conference discussing the role of bamboo and forestry resources in climate change adaptation and mitigation, featuring speakers from various countries and opening opportunities for global research.

The Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program at USU has begun offering International Classes in the Odd Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year as part of efforts to internationalize the campus and enhance the quality of learning to meet global standards.

The second day of the 2025 Summer Course at USU Faculty of Forestry was lively with an international lecture, faculty tour, and international photo contest. The event concluded with a visit to the USU Arboretum, enriching learning experiences on forest resource conservation.
