ECOWPOT: USU Students’ Innovation Presents Avicennia Biodegradable Pots to Address Coastal Erosion and Plastic Waste in Tanjung Rejo Village USU students developed ECOWPOT, a biodegradable pot made from cow dung and bamboo shavings, as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic polybags for mangrove nurseries in Tanjung Rejo Village. USU Faculty of Forestry and Labura Research Agency Reveal Grand Strategy to Save Mangroves Threatened by 42 Km of Coastal Erosion The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), together with the Labuhanbatu Utara Research and Development Agency, presented a strategic study on mangrove management. The study revealed more than 42 km of coastal erosion, the loss of 330 ha of land, and proposed rehabilitation and silvofishery strategies. 28 October 2025

The event featured three speakers — Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto, Dr. Kansih Sri Hartini, and Dr. Agr. Faujiah Nurhasanah Ritonga — who delivered materials on writing guidelines, research idea exploration, and the use of academic digital tools.
