USU Faculty of Forestry’s PIMB Center Contributes Strategically in Bappenas FGD for the 2045 Disaster Resilience Policy White Paper The research team from the Center for Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation Studies (Puska PIMB) of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, served as speakers in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) organized by Bappenas to formulate national policy recommendations toward disaster-resilient and sustainable climate development by 2045. 25 October 2025

USU Faculty of Forestry Holds Inhouse Training on Scientific Writing for Forestry Students The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held an Inhouse Training on Scientific Writing for forestry students on October 15, 2025. The event featured three speakers — Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto, Dr. Kansih Sri Hartini, and Dr. Agr. Faujiah Nurhasanah Ritonga — who delivered materials on writing guidelines, research idea exploration, and the use of academic digital tools. Through this training, students are expected to develop the ability to produce high-quality scientific papers that positively impact the forestry field. 15 October 2025

USU Encourages the Use of Water Hyacinth as Compost in Simangulampe Village: A Green Innovation to Restore Post-Flood Land Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through its Community Service (PPM) program for Fostered Villages, conducted a composting workshop in Simangulampe Village, Humbahas. The activity encouraged local residents to process water hyacinth from Lake Toba into organic fertilizer as a solution to limited farmland and post-flood recovery. 14 October 2025

ECOREST: USU Students’ Action to Protect Batang Toru, Nature’s Harmony, and Indigenous Culture in the Modern Era ECOREST is a USU student initiative to address conservation challenges in the Batang Toru Forest. Through four main pillars—Eco-Learn, Responsible Action, Sustainable Solution, and Transformation—the program connects indigenous communities, youth, and government to jointly protect the forest while preserving culture. 22 September 2025
