The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held an Inhouse Training on Scientific Writing for forestry students on October 15, 2025. The event featured three speakers — Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto, Dr. Kansih Sri Hartini, and Dr. Agr. Faujiah Nurhasanah Ritonga — who delivered materials on writing guidelines, research idea exploration, and the use of academic digital tools. Through this training, students are expected to develop the ability to produce high-quality scientific papers that positively impact the forestry field.

FORESTRY PR — The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), continues its commitment to improving students’ academic quality through the Inhouse Training on Scientific Writing, held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Faculty of Forestry, Kwala Bekala. The event was attended by undergraduate forestry students (mandatory for the 2023 cohort) and featured three competent speakers in their respective fields.

The activity aimed to equip students with the skills to write scientific papers properly and in accordance with academic standards.

The three speakers presented complementary topics as follows:

Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto, S.Hut., M.Si., delivered a session titled “Exploring Ideas in Scientific Writing”, encouraging students to identify innovative research ideas based on current forestry, environmental, and sustainability issues relevant to community needs.

Dr. Kansih Sri Hartini, S.Hut., M.P., presented “Scientific Writing Rules and Enhanced Spelling (EYD)”, emphasizing the importance of proper structure and the use of standardized language in line with the academic guidelines of the USU Faculty of Forestry.

Dr. Agr. Faujiah Nurhasanah Ritonga, S.Hut., M.Si., concluded the session with “The Use of Tool Managers in Scientific Writing”, introducing various digital tools such as Mendeley, Grammarly, and other reference managers to simplify the writing and citation process.

The event was highly interactive and engaging. Students had the opportunity to directly discuss with the speakers and practice using digital tools to support their scientific writing.

“Scientific writing is not only about fulfilling academic requirements but also about sharing ideas that benefit society,” said one of the speakers.

Through this activity, the USU Faculty of Forestry hopes that students will become more confident in writing creative, well-structured scientific papers that contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge and the field of forestry.
