The Pre-Graduation Briefing for Prospective Graduates of the USU Faculty of Forestry Period I Academic Year 2025/2026 featured M. Indra Kurnia, S.Hut. (Director of Conservation at YOSL–OIC) to strengthen soft skills and the role of foresters in supporting the SDGs, while also announcing the Best Graduates from four fields of specialization.

FORESTRY PR — The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), emphasized that becoming a forestry graduate is not solely about academic excellence. Ahead of graduation, prospective graduates were provided with reinforcement in soft skills, professional ethics, and environmental responsibility to enable them to become problem solvers in addressing future forestry and sustainability challenges.

This message was delivered during the Pre-Graduation Briefing for Prospective Graduates of the USU Faculty of Forestry Period I Academic Year 2025/2026, held at Plaza Rimbawan, Faculty of Forestry USU, on Tuesday, 25 November 2025. The activity was attended by prospective graduates of the USU Faculty of Forestry.

The Vice Dean I of the USU Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Ir. Alfan Gunawan Ahmad, S.Hut., M.Si., in his remarks, reminded participants of the importance of humility and ethics before entering the professional world. He encouraged prospective graduates to seek forgiveness and blessings from lecturers who had guided them throughout their studies.

“With an open heart, seeking forgiveness and prayers from lecturers, God willing, the career journey ahead will be more blessed and eased,” he stated.

The briefing featured the Director of Conservation of YOSL–OIC, M. Indra Kurnia, S.Hut., as the main speaker. In his presentation, he emphasized that the forestry sector requires human resources who not only master technical aspects but also possess communication skills, collaboration abilities, social empathy, and leadership.

“Forestry graduates must be able to become problem solvers for our forests and our planet in the future. Protect what remains, and conserve forests with full responsibility,” said Indra.

According to him, issues such as climate change, ecosystem restoration, and natural resource conflicts demand forestry graduates who are capable of engaging in dialogue with communities, working across sectors, and contributing to sustainability-based policymaking.

In addition to character development materials, participants also received briefings on public communication and career opportunities in the forestry sector, including government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and private sectors engaged in environmental and sustainability fields.
