The Forest Management Unit (KPH) Region VI Aceh is a regional technical implementing unit (UPTD) responsible for forest management in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province. Its working area covers several regencies with rich biodiversity, ranging from mangrove forests, beaches, lowlands, to highland forests. Several endemic flora and fauna, as well as key species, are found in this area. These potentials need to be developed through collaboration with various parties, including universities.
Irwandi, S.P., M.P., the Head of KPH VI Aceh, along with his staff, visited the Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) at the USU Bekala Campus. The visit was aimed at strengthening relationships and signing cooperation documents, including a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Implementation Arrangement (IA) with the Faculty of Forestry and the Forestry Study Program at USU. The Faculty of Forestry warmly welcomed this collaboration, with attendees including Dean Dr. Ir. Rudi Hartono, Vice Dean III Prof. Dr. Agus Purwoko, Head of the Forestry Study Program Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, PKL Coordinator Dr. OK Hasnanda Syahputra, Vice Dean II Dr. Pindi Patana, and students currently conducting PKL at KPH VI Aceh.
A tangible example of the collaboration is the use of KPH areas as PKL locations for USU Forestry students. Moving forward, cooperation in education, research, and community service—key pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education—will be further developed. Additionally, efforts to improve the educational qualifications of KPH employees can be pursued through USU's Master's Program in Forestry.
The Head of KPH VI Aceh expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized his enthusiasm for this collaboration with USU as a strategic step for KPH development. Notably, he is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at USU’s Postgraduate School, PSL Study Program. Meanwhile, the Dean and Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Forestry USU thanked KPH VI Aceh for the partnership. Universities are now required to collaborate extensively, particularly through the Pentahelix Collaboration model, involving academia, government, private sector, industrial communities, and media.
