Universitas Sumatera Utara collaborates with KPU Sumut and eight other universities to ensure successful regional and national elections. This partnership also marks the inauguration of the Election Education Center for first-time voters.

Universitas Sumatera Utara and the Provincial Election Commission (KPU) of North Sumatra have agreed to collaborate to ensure the success of elections at both regional and national levels. The agreement was formalized at the KPU Sumut building on Tuesday (27/09/16). This collaboration also involves eight other universities, namely UINSU, UMSU, UMA, UNIKA, Universitas Darma Agung, Universitas Sisingamangaraja, Universitas HKBP Nommensen, and Universitas Muslim Nusantara (UMN) Al Washliyah, alongside the inauguration of the Election Education Center (Rumah Pintar Pemilu).

Mahyuddin, Ph.D., Vice Rector III of Universitas Sumatera Utara, representing the Rector, stated that this agreement aims to optimize the principle of mutually beneficial partnerships, support institutional development, and enhance the work programs of both parties. The scope of this collaboration includes education, research, and community service, which will be followed by further partnerships with various units within Universitas Sumatera Utara and KPU Sumut.

Meanwhile, KPU Sumut Chairman Mulia Banurea emphasized the importance of collaboration with the nine universities in North Sumatra. He noted that universities are strategic partners in achieving KPU's mission, particularly in increasing participation among first-time voters. He added that the collaboration also marks the inauguration of the Election Education Center, a KPU RI program aimed at providing political education for North Sumatran communities and educating first-time voters. Mulia hopes this collaboration will proceed smoothly and be followed by a more significant Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in the future, bringing tangible benefits to the community in ensuring successful elections.

One of the students invited to the event, Dinda, from SMAN 3 Medan, expressed that the activity was highly beneficial for her and her peers. Through the inauguration of the Election Education Center, she gained better insights into the intricacies of elections, voter eligibility requirements, the history of elections, and voting procedures. Dinda, a Grade XII MIA 2 student, encouraged her peers to actively follow political news in Indonesia, participate in elections, and avoid abstaining from voting. "My friends and I want to participate in the upcoming democratic festivity and help make it a success," Dinda said with a cheerful smile.

The collaboration event between KPU Sumut and the nine universities was also attended by the Governor of North Sumatra, Ir. H. Tengku Erry Nuradi, M.Si., the Chairperson of KPU RI, and representatives from political parties participating in the elections.
