The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held the 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) from August 12–14, 2026, at USU Campus 2, Bekala, Deli Serdang. Over the three-day program, new students participated in various activities designed to introduce academic life, foster solidarity, and raise awareness of environmental conservation.
The program featured a variety of introductory sessions, covering topics such as Impactful Campus and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS), the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN), disaster preparedness, the Council of Professors, and alumni sharing sessions. These sessions provided students with an overview of university life while equipping them with knowledge and perspectives to navigate their academic and social experiences as members of the FAHUTAN USU community.
On the third day, students were invited to connect more closely with nature through an exploration of the USU Arboretum. They walked through the forest area, crossed small streams, and participated in a forest healing session involving meditation in the calm and cool atmosphere of the forest. The activity offered a different learning experience while introducing the forest as a space for education, reflection, and a source of life.
The students’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the program. The sense of solidarity built through various activities played an important role in helping new students adapt to the campus environment while becoming familiar with the values associated with forestry.
The activities were accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowowati, S.Hut., M.Si., along with Vice Deans Dr. Tito Sucipto and Dr. Luthfi Hakim. Also in attendance were the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry, Dr. Evalina Herawati, the Secretary of the Study Program, Dr. Deni Elfiati, lecturers and educational staff, as well as FAHUTAN PKKMB Chair Deanova Frestiana Pelawi, M.Sc., and the organizing committee.
On the final day, all new students of the Faculty of Forestry joined new students from faculties across USU at USU Campus 1, Padang Bulan, Medan, to participate in the closing series of PKKMB USU 2026.
Through a combination of introductory sessions, community-building activities, and direct experiences in nature, FAHUTAN USU PKKMB 2026 provided an initial platform for new students to become familiar with the campus, develop their character, and cultivate greater awareness of forests and the environment. The program aligns with the spirit of SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 15: Life on Land.
