The USU Faculty of Forestry and the North Sumatra Agricultural Instrument Standardization Agency (BSIP) collaborated to optimize the infrastructure of the USU Bekala campus on September 2, 2024. This collaboration aims to utilize 300 hectares of land with plans to build Taman KEHATI and develop agroforestry.

Optimal utilization and management of infrastructure is one of the keys to achieving the vision and mission in an organization or agency. Optimally managed infrastructure has long been considered a major factor in improving human resources to achieve goals. In addition, the involvement of various parties also contributes greatly to achieving optimal infrastructure.

The Faculty of Forestry at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has long sought to improve and implement infrastructure optimization to achieve various goals, including becoming an international standard campus and providing the best facilities for all campus residents. In its efforts, the USU Faculty of Forestry has collaborated with various parties to improve infrastructure management and utilization. On Monday, September 2, 2024, USU Vice Rector V, Dr. Ir. Luhut Sihombing, M.P., and the Head of the USU Business Management Agency, Dr. Doli Muhammad Jafar Dalimunthe, S.E., M.Si., together with the USU Asset and Business Management Bureau and a group of the North Sumatra Agricultural Instrument Standardization Agency (BSIP) visited the USU Faculty of Forestry which is located at Jalan Lingkar USU, Kwala Bekala, Pancur Batu, Deli Serdang. The purpose of the visit was to establish cooperation and collaboration between the two parties, especially in the field of management and utilization of the USU Bekala Campus.

The Dean of the USU Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Ir. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., together with the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Ir. Pindi Patana, S.Hut., M.Sc., warmly welcomed the guests and entourage. USU Bekala Campus has 300 hectares of land that has not been optimally utilized. Currently, only the Faculty of Forestry academic community has been active at the USU Bekala Campus since January 2022. On this occasion, the USU Faculty of Forestry submitted a plan to build a KEHATI Park as part of the arboretum management. This plan was very well received by the USU Vice Rector V and was good news for the entire academic community.

Head of BSIP North Sumatra, Dr. Khadijah EL Ramija, S.Pi., M.Si., said that her party was ready to cooperate in the fields of agroforestry, horticultural plant collections, and family medicinal plants (TOGA). BSIP has the task of coordinating, formulating, implementing, maintaining, and harmonizing agricultural instrument standards. BSIP is a form of transformation from the Agricultural Research and Development Agency (Balitbang) since 2022. With the implementation of this collaboration, the Faculty of Forestry USU hopes that the arboretum and the entire Bekala campus area can be managed optimally and provide wider benefits to the surrounding environment, especially the academic community of the Faculty of Forestry USU.
