The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), received a visit and held an audience with the Relawan Kemanusiaan Nusantara (RAWANTARA) Medan at USU Campus 2 Bekala, Simalingkar A, Deli Serdang, on Thursday (September 17, 2026). The audience discussed preparations for the implementation of the Nature School activity, which will be held in the Arboretum area of the Faculty of Forestry USU on Sunday (September 27, 2026).

Representatives of RAWANTARA Medan, Mahdiyyah Ardhina and Zidan Syahira, received a warm welcome from Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Dr. Anita Zaitunah, accompanied by the Manager of Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization, Dr. Ridahati Rambey, as well as the Public Relations Team of the Faculty of Forestry USU.

During the meeting, both parties discussed the technical aspects and readiness of the activity, which will involve elementary school children together with their parents. The activity is designed as an outdoor learning space that invites children to learn about their surroundings directly and enjoyably.

The Arboretum of the Faculty of Forestry USU was selected as the location for the activity because it has a lush atmosphere and a diverse collection of trees. These conditions are considered in line with the theme of the Nature School, namely “Getting to Know the Surrounding Nature: Trees,” allowing participants to gain a learning experience by directly observing and interacting with the environment.

Through this activity, RAWANTARA Medan and the Faculty of Forestry USU are also opening opportunities for collaboration in introducing the importance of the environment to the younger generation. Learning in an open space is expected to foster children's curiosity, concern, and love for nature from an early age.

This collaboration is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education through experiential learning in nature, as well as SDG 15 on Life on Land through introducing and increasing awareness of trees and the environment. The synergy between RAWANTARA Medan and the Faculty of Forestry USU also supports SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals by building positive collaboration for education and environmental sustainability.
