The USU Faculty of Forestry held multipurpose tree planting at KHDTK Pondok Buluh 2025 to support food security and environmental conservation.

Faculty of Forestry PR – The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), once again took action through an engaging and beneficial community service activity. The program, entitled “Planting Multipurpose Trees as an Alternative Food Source to Support Food Security,” is held from August to October 2025 in the agroforestry area of the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK), Pondok Buluh Village, Dolok Panribuan Subdistrict, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province.

This tree-planting activity was carried out as a concrete step to support community food security by utilizing multipurpose trees. These trees were selected not only for their environmentally friendly nature but also for their ability to provide alternative food sources that can be used sustainably.

A spirit of togetherness was evident as lecturers, students, and local residents worked hand in hand to plant seedlings in the agroforestry area. This activity also served as an educational platform for the community on the importance of multipurpose trees as pillars of food security and environmental preservation.

“Through this activity, we hope the community can directly experience the benefits of multipurpose trees, both for food needs and for ecosystem sustainability,” said one of the committee members enthusiastically.

With this program, the USU Faculty of Forestry not only contributes academically but also makes a direct impact on the community. The planting of multipurpose trees is expected to inspire the realization of food self-sufficiency while preserving forests for future generations.
