HUMAS FAHUTAN – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) conducted a mentoring and proposal selection program for participants of the Greenovate Challenge 2026 as part of its preparations for a national-level sustainability innovation competition organized by the TBS Foundation. The activity, held online via Zoom Meeting on Friday, July 24, aimed to identify the best proposals and select finalists who would represent USU in the competition.
The mentoring and selection process was led by faculty mentor Dr. Nelly Anna, S.Hut., M.Si., together with the organizing committee. Throughout the activity, participants received feedback and guidance on improving the substance of their proposals, strengthening the novelty of their ideas, and developing effective strategies for presenting their concepts in line with the competition theme.
The discussion was conducted interactively with the participation of all contestants. The various ideas and solutions proposed by the students were comprehensively evaluated, enabling each proposal to be further developed into a more mature, applicable, and highly implementable concept.
Through the mentoring and selection process, several finalists were ultimately selected based on their competence, creativity, and readiness to represent Universitas Sumatera Utara at the Greenovate Challenge 2026, which will be held in Jakarta from August 3–6, 2026.
Greenovate Challenge is one of the programs organized by the TBS Foundation as a platform for collaboration among higher education institutions, students, academics, and industry partners to encourage the development of innovations that support sustainable development. The program aims to strengthen the connection between academia and real-world implementation by developing innovative and applicable solutions with the potential to be replicated on a broader scale.
Beyond serving as a competition, Greenovate Challenge is also expected to foster a generation of young people who are increasingly concerned about environmental issues, the circular economy, and sustainable development. The participation of USU students in this program reflects the university’s commitment to promoting research-based innovation while preparing human resources capable of making meaningful contributions to addressing future environmental challenges.
Through intensive mentoring and an objective selection process, Universitas Sumatera Utara is optimistic that the selected finalists will deliver their best performance and proudly represent the university at the national-level Greenovate Challenge 2026.
The mentoring and proposal selection for Greenovate Challenge 2026 aligns with Universitas Sumatera Utara’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through strengthening students’ competencies and capacities to develop research-based innovations; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by encouraging the development of creative solutions that can be implemented to address various development challenges; and SDG 13 (Climate Action) through the development of sustainability- and circular economy-oriented ideas. Furthermore, collaboration among USU, the TBS Foundation, academics, and various partners reflects the implementation of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) in strengthening cross-sectoral synergies toward sustainable development.
