The Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), officially concluded on Friday, August 14, 2026. Embracing a learning experience closely connected to nature, the final day of PKKMB featured an exploration of the USU Arboretum and a forest healing session before all new students attended the PKKMB closing ceremony together at USU Campus 1, Padang Bulan, Medan.

The third day began with a morning exercise session attended by new students and the organizing committee. The students then visited and explored the USU Arboretum, located near the Faculty of Forestry at USU Campus 2, Bekala, Deli Serdang.
At the arboretum, the new students gained insights into forestry and the environment through direct, nature-based learning. They explored the forest area, crossed a small stream, and participated in various activities designed to be educational, engaging, and challenging.

One of the most memorable activities was the forest healing session. In the calm and cool atmosphere of the forest, students were invited to meditate while taking in their natural surroundings. The activity provided an opportunity for students to take a moment to unwind, develop a closer connection with nature, and experience the forest as a space that can provide tranquility and positive experiences.

The students showed great enthusiasm throughout the activities. They enjoyed every activity prepared by the organizing committee, from exploring the arboretum to experiencing forest healing. In addition to introducing students to the forestry environment, the activities also provided an opportunity to build camaraderie and strengthen relationships among the new students.
Following the activities at the arboretum, the students were given time to freshen up, perform the Friday prayer together, and rest. They then traveled to USU Campus 1, Padang Bulan, Medan, to attend the 2026 PKKMB closing ceremony together with new students from across USU.

The entire PKKMB series at the Faculty of Forestry, USU, was directly supervised and supported by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., together with Vice Deans Dr. Tito Sucipto and Dr. Luthfi Hakim. Also present were Head of the Undergraduate Forestry Study Program Dr. Evalina Herawati and Secretary of the Undergraduate Forestry Study Program Dr. Deni Elfiati, along with lecturers and administrative staff.

The activities were also supported by the Chair of the Faculty of Forestry PKKMB Committee, Deanova Frestiana Pelawi, M.Sc., together with the entire organizing committee, who prepared the 2026 PKKMB series.
The conclusion of PKKMB is not merely a marker of the end of the new student welcoming programme, but also the beginning of their journey as members of the Faculty of Forestry, USU community. Through learning experiences both in academic spaces and in nature, the new students were introduced to the values of forestry from the very beginning of their higher education journey.

This activity also reflects the Faculty of Forestry, USU’s commitment to providing education oriented toward experiential learning, environmental awareness, and sustainability, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 15: Life on Land.
