The spirit of independence and togetherness colored the celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) on Monday (August 17, 2026). The occasion was made even more special as it coincided with the 74th Dies Natalis of USU, which featured various activities and competitions aimed at strengthening unity among the university community.
The celebration began with a flag-raising ceremony commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The atmosphere of nationalism and togetherness continued through various competitions involving the USU academic community as part of the festivities celebrating both Independence Day and the 74th Dies Natalis of USU.
On this occasion, the Faculty of Forestry USU achieved two victories, winning First Place in the Yell-Yell Competition and Third Place in the Bazaar Stand Decoration Competition. Both categories challenged participants to demonstrate creativity, teamwork, communication, and the ability to develop ideas collaboratively.
These achievements were not merely competition victories but also reflected the spirit of collaboration cultivated within the Faculty of Forestry USU. Students and education personnel demonstrated that their competencies and potential extend beyond academics and forestry to include creativity, arts, communication, and teamwork.
The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., together with the entire academic community, expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm and teamwork demonstrated throughout the activities. The victories serve as evidence that a spirit of togetherness can generate creative ideas while strengthening a sense of belonging to the institution.
The celebration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence and the 74th Dies Natalis of USU also served as a momentum to continue fostering collaboration, creativity, and pride as members of the USU community.
These achievements further strengthen the commitment of the Faculty of Forestry USU to encouraging students and education personnel to develop holistically—not only to excel in forestry knowledge but also to become creative, adaptive, collaborative, and capable of making positive contributions to the campus environment and society.
This spirit aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthening individual capacity, creativity, and collaboration in building an inclusive and competitive educational environment.
