HUMAS FAHUTA – The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) conducted a field survey on Saturday, August 2, 2026, in preparation for a collaborative program with PT Energi Mega Persada (EMP) Tbk. The survey was conducted in Bubun Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, which is planned to serve as the site for the mangrove planting activity.

The survey was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at USU, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., accompanied by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Partnerships, and Internationalization, Dr. Anita Zaitunah, as well as Faculty of Forestry lecturers Dr. Bejo Slamet, S.Hut., M.Si.; Dr. Samsuri, S.Hut., M.Si.; and Suri Fadhilla, S.Hut., M.Si.

The survey aimed to assess field conditions and prepare for the implementation of the mangrove planting program scheduled for August 2026. The survey results will serve as a basis for determining the technical aspects of implementation, ensuring that the activity can be carried out effectively and provide benefits to coastal ecosystems.

PT Energi Mega Persada (EMP) Tbk. is an upstream oil and gas company with operations in Indonesia and Mozambique. Through the planned collaboration, EMP and the Faculty of Forestry at USU are committed to supporting coastal area rehabilitation efforts through mangrove planting as part of their contribution to environmental conservation.

The collaboration is expected to serve as a concrete step in strengthening synergy between higher education institutions and the industrial sector in supporting coastal ecosystem conservation while enhancing ecological and social benefits for surrounding communities.

The activity aligns with the commitment of the Faculty of Forestry at USU to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14: Life Below Water through the conservation of coastal and mangrove ecosystems, SDG 15: Life on Land through environmental rehabilitation, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthened collaboration between higher education institutions and the industrial sector.
