The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), received a visit from the USU Directorate of Commercialization, Business, and Risk Management (Dit. KBM) to discuss the potential utilization of facilities as sources of income generation. The meeting was held at the Faculty of Forestry USU Meeting Room, Deli Serdang, on Wednesday (August 19, 2026).

The meeting was attended by Hafiza Adlina, S.AB., M.AB., Manager of Commercialization and Business at the USU Directorate of Commercialization, Business, and Risk Management, along with her team, as well as Dr. Luthfi Hakim, Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Academic Infrastructure of the Faculty of Forestry USU, and members of the faculty’s administrative staff.

The discussion explored several facilities with potential for development, including the Forest Products Technology Laboratory (THH), which provides testing services using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM), as well as various laboratories and equipment such as cameras, microscopes, binoculars, and drones. The USU Arboretum was also identified as a strategic asset with potential for development as an environmentally based educational tourism destination.

Hafiza Adlina explained that facility data collection and mapping are important steps in determining maintenance needs while optimizing the potential of assets as sources of revenue. Following the discussion, the Dit. KBM team and the Faculty of Forestry conducted a direct inspection of several facilities, including laboratories, a screen house, fields, and the arboretum.

The optimization of these facilities is aligned with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through the development of productive economic activities, as well as SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through the effective and sustainable utilization of institutional assets. This collaboration also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening synergy among units within USU.
