The 2026 Campus Life Orientation Program for New Students (PKKMB) at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), continued into its second day on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Campus 2 USU, Bekala, Deli Serdang. A variety of educational materials and activities were provided to broaden students’ perspectives while preparing them for academic and student life.

On the second day, new students received presentations on Impactful Campus and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The sessions provided an understanding of the role of higher education institutions in generating tangible contributions to society, the environment, and sustainable development.

Students also received briefings on the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS), the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking (P4GN), and disaster preparedness. These sessions were important in raising students’ awareness of safety, campus environmental health, and preparedness for various potential risks.

The program also featured sessions with the Board of Professors and an alumni sharing session. Through these sessions, new students gained perspectives on academic journeys, competency development, and professional experiences that can inspire them in determining their personal and professional development throughout their studies at the Faculty of Forestry USU.

Students’ understanding of campus life was further strengthened through an introduction to student organizations (ormawa). They were introduced to various platforms for developing interests, talents, leadership skills, and organizational abilities, providing opportunities to contribute and build networks during their time at the university.

In addition to theoretical sessions, new students participated in a practical and interactive activity by creating mini terrariums. The activity provided a simple hands-on experience in understanding ecosystem concepts while introducing creative ways to utilize and care for environmental elements.

The second day concluded with “Tour the Faculty,” which introduced students to various facilities, academic spaces, and the Faculty of Forestry USU environment. The activity was expected to help students adapt to their new surroundings while fostering a sense of belonging to their academic community.

The enthusiasm of the new students was evident throughout the activities. They participated attentively in each session and actively engaged in the interactive activities. This enthusiasm formed an important part of their initial process of getting to know their environment, building relationships, and preparing to become members of the academic community at the Faculty of Forestry USU.

Through the second day of PKKMB, the Faculty of Forestry USU not only introduced students to academic and student life but also instilled values of social responsibility, environmental sustainability, integrity, safety, and preparedness for future challenges. The activities are aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education through the provision of quality education and orientation, as well as SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through efforts to foster a safe, inclusive, and integrity-based campus environment.
