Three lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), have been selected as winners of the Indonesia Collaborative Research Program (RKI) 2026 through strategic research on composite bamboo, disaster mitigation, and mangrove ecosystems, supporting the achievement of the SDGs and sustainable development.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), has once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment through three of its lecturers being selected as winners of the Indonesia Collaborative Research Program (RKI) 2026, based on Decree of the Chairperson of the Association of Research and Community Service Institutions of State Universities with Legal Entities (LPPM PTNBH) No. 002/ALP/HK/V/2026 dated May 6, 2026.

The lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry USU who successfully secured RKI 2026 research funding are:

  1. Prof. Dr. Ir. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM., through the research Development of Composite Bamboo as a Housing Component in Supporting Downstream Industrial Programs, in collaboration with Universitas Brawijaya and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
  2. Dr. Ir. Samsuri, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng., through the research Formulation and Standardization of a Watershed-Based Ecosystem Sensitivity Index as a Basis for Disaster Mitigation, in collaboration with Universitas Hasanuddin and Universitas Negeri Malang.
  3. Prof. Mohammad Basyuni, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., through the research Investigation of Ecosystem Services in Mangrove Forests for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies, in collaboration with national and international partners.

This achievement reflects the Faculty of Forestry USU’s commitment to promoting collaborative research that supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Through cross-university and research institution collaboration, these studies are expected to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of science, sustainable environmental management, and the strengthening of forestry innovation in Indonesia.
