The USU Faculty of Forestry successfully organized the International World Top Scientist Seminar with Prof. Xu Weihua (Chinese Academy of Sciences) on September 3, 2025. The seminar discussed the importance of protected areas for biodiversity and ecosystem services, and served as an inspiring platform for students to learn directly from a world-renowned conservation expert.

PR FHUT – The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), once again marked a proud achievement by successfully organizing the International World Top Scientist Seminar, which was held online via Zoom Meeting on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

 

The seminar presented the keynote speaker, Prof. Xu Weihua, a leading researcher from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He also serves as Deputy Director of the Institute of National Park and Chair of IUCN Key Biodiversity Areas in China, with an outstanding research record and an h-index of 43.

 

With the theme “Strengthening Protected Areas for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services”, Prof. Xu Weihua highlighted the crucial role of protected areas in conserving biodiversity and supporting sustainable ecosystem services.

 

The event was moderated by Dr. Anita Zaitunah from the USU Faculty of Forestry. The presence of Prof. Xu Weihua was a valuable experience for the academic community and seminar participants to broaden their perspectives on conservation and environmental management from a global viewpoint.

 

Through this event, the USU Faculty of Forestry reaffirmed its commitment to providing international-quality academic forums, bridging students with world-class scientists, and strengthening contributions to the development of forestry science.
