The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara welcomed an academic visit from Tottori University, Japan, during a short visit on February 19, 2025, at USU Bekala Campus.

FAHUTAN PUBLIC RELATIONS – The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed an academic visit from Tottori University, Japan, as part of a short-visit program held at USU Bekala Campus on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The visit was led by the Secretary of USU’s Directorate of Internationalization and Global Cooperation, Arif Nuryawan, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D. This visit aimed to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at USU, Prof. Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., opened the event by emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in forestry and environmental sciences. Following this, Dr. Pindi Patana, S.Hut., M.Sc., representing the Faculty of Forestry at USU, delivered a presentation on the campus, academic programs, and future collaboration opportunities.

 

 

As a commitment to this partnership, an Implementation of Agreement (IA) was signed between the Faculty of Forestry at USU and Tottori University. The event continued with remarks from Tottori University representatives, who expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome and their hopes for a long-term collaboration.

 

The delegation from Tottori University comprised seven individuals, including three faculty members and four students. The faculty members were Prof. Dr. Reiko Omoto, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomomi Naka, and Assoc. Prof. Hidetoshi Shiroishi, MA. The students included Sakurako Mitani, Nagiri Kimura, Mai Yanase, and Miri Mori. Several faculty members from USU also attended the event, including the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Alfan Gunawan Ahmad, S.Hut., M.Si.; the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry, Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng.; and the Secretary of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry, Dr. Evalina Herawati, S.Hut., M.Si. Additionally, several other lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry participated in discussions exploring potential collaboration.

 

 

One of the main agendas of this visit was an academic discussion featuring Prof. Tomomi Naka (Anthropology) and Prof. Hidetoshi Shiroishi (Marketing). The discussion focused on the potential for joint initiatives in the three pillars of higher education (tridharma perguruan tinggi), involving lecturers and other academics from the Faculty of Forestry at USU.

The event concluded with a networking session and a joint luncheon, further strengthening the relationship between the two institutions. This visit is expected to serve as the first step toward a closer collaboration in research, education, and community service between USU and Tottori University.
