HUMAS FAHUTAN – The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), received a visit from the Board of Trustees (Majelis Wali Amanat/MWA) of USU to review one of the university’s accredited laboratories, namely the Forest Products Technology (THH) Laboratory, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. This visit was part of MWA’s agenda to directly assess the potential development of laboratory facilities in supporting academic activities and enhancing their contribution to the university.
The MWA delegation included Prof. Dr. Tamrin, M.Sc. (Secretary of MWA), Prof. Ir. Nazaruddin, M.T., Ph.D. (Head of Commission I), Fadhullah, S.E., M.M. (Member of Commission I), Dr. Husni Thamrin, S.Sos., MSP (Head of Commission III), Ir. Indra Chahaya S., M.Si. (Secretary of Commission III), Dr. H. Kaswinata, S.E., Ak., CA., MSP (Head of the Audit Committee), Dr. Syarief Fauzie, S.E., M.Ak., Ak., CA., CPA (Secretary of the Audit Committee), and Riva Ubar Harahap, S.E., Ak., M.Si., CA., CPA (Member of the Audit Committee).
From the Faculty of Forestry, the visit was attended by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM., Vice Dean II, Dr. Ir. Pindi Patana, S.Hut., M.Sc., IPU., Vice Dean III, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Purwoko, S.Hut., M.Si., Head of the Undergraduate Program, Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng., Secretary of the Undergraduate Program, Dr. Evalina Herawati, S.Hut., M.Si., Head of the Master’s Program, Dr. Ir. Samsuri, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Secretary of the Master’s Program, Dr. Nurdin Sulistiyono, S.Hut., M.Si., Head of the THH Laboratory, Dr. Ir. Luthfi Hakim, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM., Head of the KSH Laboratory, Dr. Ridahati Rambey, S.Hut., M.Si., as well as lecturers from the Forest Products Technology field.
The activity began with a welcoming remark from the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, who expressed appreciation for the visit and support toward the development of educational and research facilities within the faculty. The Secretary of MWA then officially opened the session and explained that the visit was part of efforts to assess the development potential of strategic units within the university.
As a Public University with Legal Entity status (PTN-BH), Universitas Sumatera Utara continues to be encouraged to optimize its potential, including enhancing accredited laboratory services to provide broader benefits for academic activities and external collaborations.
During the session, the Head of the THH Laboratory presented the laboratory profile, including its vision and mission, organizational structure, business processes, as well as various practicum and research activities. Challenges in laboratory management and the need for facility development to improve service quality were also highlighted.
The presentation was followed by a discussion session between the MWA delegation and the academic community of the Faculty of Forestry regarding opportunities to strengthen the laboratory’s role, including potential service development that could contribute more broadly to the university. The outcomes of this visit are expected to serve as a basis for further discussions at the MWA level in identifying solutions for laboratory development at USU.
The visit concluded with a direct tour of the THH Laboratory, allowing the MWA delegation to observe the facilities and ongoing activities within the laboratory.
