The Faculty of Forestry at USU hosted an ASIIN Cluster B accreditation site visit to evaluate its educational quality and OBE- and PBL-based curriculum. The outcome is expected to boost the global competitiveness of its graduates.
The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) marked a significant milestone with the site visit for the ASIIN Cluster B International Accreditation, held from Wednesday to Friday, December 4–6, 2024. This event aimed to assess the educational quality and readiness of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry and Master’s Program in Forestry to meet international standards.
The ASIIN assessor team, comprising Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Carsten Mann (Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE)), Dr. Uwe Sayer (Senior Expert for Forest Certification FSC International), Dr. Ir. Melya Riniarti, S.P., M.Si. (Universitas Lampung), and Ariba Irbatun Husna (Universitas Lambung Mangkurat), arrived at the USU campus to conduct a series of evaluations. These evaluations included academic document reviews, discussions with faculty leaders, interviews with lecturers, alumni, partners, and students, as well as on-site visits to supporting facilities such as laboratories, arboretums, and libraries.
Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at USU, stated that this initiative was a strategic effort to enhance the competitiveness of its graduates while reinforcing their commitment to producing nationally and internationally competent alumni. “This accreditation is not merely about recognition but also serves as a motivation for us to innovate continuously and to develop curriculum based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Project-Based Learning (PBL), enabling our graduates to excel globally,” Dr. Rudi explained.
The event received enthusiastic participation from the academic community of the Faculty of Forestry at USU. Students and alumni were actively involved in discussions, contributing valuable insights into the learning processes, research, and student activities at the faculty.
The results of this site visit are expected to be announced in early 2025. If successful, USU’s Faculty of Forestry will gain international recognition as a center of excellence in forestry education.
Through this event, the Faculty of Forestry at USU reaffirmed its commitment to producing exceptional graduates who can tackle global challenges in forestry and environmental fields.
