Thursday, September 26, 2024 Fahutan USU warmly welcomed the arrival of four presenters from three different countries. The presence of these special guests was none other than to fill in the material in the International Guest Lecture seminar entitled “forestry product development” including hydrogel, lignin, and bamboo laminate boards.
The four presenters who had the opportunity to attend this event were Antonio Di Martino, Ph.D from Research School in Chemistry and Applied Biomedical Technologies Russia, Mohd. Hazwan Hussin, Ph.D. ChM. MICorr. (UK) NACE. (USA) from the School of Chemical Sciences Universiti Sains Malaysia, Lee Seng Hua, Ph.D from the Faculty of Applied Sciences Universiti Teknologi MARA Pahang, Malaysia, and Prof. Dr. Widya Fatriasari from the Biomass and Bioproducts Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia.
The seminar, which was hosted by Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto, S.Hut., M.Si, began with a speech delivered by the Head of the USU Undergraduate Program in Forestry, Dr. Tito Sucipto, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng. In his speech, Dr. Tito expressed his great gratitude for the presence of these four extraordinary materials. After giving a speech, the seminar, which was attended by more than 50 participants, continued with the presentation of material by each guest. Besides being attended by students of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry, the international guest lecture seminar was also attended by students of the Master's Program in Forestry. Various materials were given by the speakers in a straightforward and steady manner.
In his presentation, various innovations and utilization of materials derived from non-timber forest products, such as bamboo and palm oil pulp, succeeded in attracting the interest of the audience. This was illustrated by the many questions that arose after the material was given. All participants also seemed enthusiastic about the various pieces of knowledge shared by researchers from Russia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. According to them, this seminar was very insightful and opened opportunities for ideas to conduct research either as a thesis or thesis in the future. They also hope that similar seminars can be held as often as possible as a source of interesting information and broad insight.
