Tuesday, January 30, 2024, the USU Faculty of Forestry held a Debriefing event for Graduates Entering the World of Business and Industry (DUDI). This event was held at the USU Faculty of Forestry Bekala Campus with the theme "Prospects for Forestry Graduates to Become Environmental Journalists". In accordance with the theme, the resource person invited to this DUDI event this time was the PLT Head of Sumatra TV One, namely Sri Wanasari, S.Sos., M.Ikom.


The Alumni Talk and DUDI event was opened by the Vice Dean 1, Dr. Ir. Alfan Gunawan Ahmad, S.Hut, M.Si. Also present were the head of the Undergraduate Forestry study program, Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU and the Chairperson of the USU Forestry Alumni Association (Ikahut), Yudha Lesmana Pohan, S.Hut, Head of Laboratory, Head of Administration, Head of Student Affairs, and other lecturers.
 

 

In his remarks, Vice Dean 1 and the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry congratulated all students who had graduated and would graduate on February 4–5, 2024, maintain the good name of the Faculty of Forestry and maintain communication with the campus. Furthermore, Vice Dean 1 explained that the theme of Prospects for Forestry Graduates to become Environmental Journalists was raised because there is a parallel between the environmental journalist profession and the moral responsibility of Forestry Graduates in preserving forest resources and the environment. Forestry graduates must take part as environmental journalists so that the mission of conserving forest resources and saving the environment on this earth can continue to be echoed to the public area effectively.

 

Therefore, the resource person in the Faculty of Forestry graduation briefing activity this time came from journalists, namely Sri Wanasari, S.Sos., M.Ikom who also served as Acting Head of the Sumatra Bureau of TV One and Secretary of the Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI) North Sumatra. For approximately 2 hours, Wanasari enlightened and motivated the new Forestry Graduates to dare to enter the world of journalism. Wanasari also shared experiences and tips for success in the world of journalism. Among them are tips for not being nervous to deliver news in front of the camera. In addition, Wanasari also conveyed some soft skills that must be possessed if you want to enter the world of journalism, including public communication skills. Related to this, Wanasari motivated the graduates that even now, she still continues to upgrade her ability in public speaking through various communities.


Before the material delivery session by the speakers, in this activity there was also a symbolic handover of new graduates of the USU Faculty of Forestry to the Chairperson of the USU Forestry Alumni Association (IKAHUT), Yudha Lesmana Pohan, S.Hut. In his remarks, Yudha Lesmana said welcome and congratulations on joining the new graduates of the Faculty of Forestry into the IKAHUT family.
