The Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program is one of the study programs within the USU Faculty of Forestry. The Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program began taking part in accepting new students in 1999 and has produced graduates who work in various agencies, such as government, private, BUMN, entrepreneurship, and so on. The Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program is committed to producing graduates who are professional, characterized, and able to compete in the world of work. This commitment is shown through updating the higher education curriculum that follows the rapid development of technology and the application of science and knowledge, as well as the needs of society. Traditional input-oriented learning models, such as teacher-centered, must change into a superior learning model that is output- and outcome-oriented. The outcome-based education (OBE) learning method is a student-oriented learning method that focuses on things that students must do to obtain learning outcomes. The higher education curriculum based on OBE aligns with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia.

The rapid development of technology in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 significantly affects the changing dynamics of increasingly competitive work professionals. The dynamics of change in Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is integrated with information technology, is essential for the Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program to produce graduates who have relevant competencies at the level of competition faced. This is a consideration for the Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program to synergize the expectations of industry needs by implementing information technology in every Three Pillars of Higher Education activity within the Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program. Specifically, the implementation of information technology is shown through the teaching and learning process (PBM), which uses digital, online, or online systems, as well as other relevant information technology devices to provide ease of communication and interaction between lecturers and students.

The knowledge transfer process is also supported by improving students’ managerial skills through student involvement in research and community service activities by lecturers. This is expected to benefit students by simulating the implementation of related theories in solving existing problems. The Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program of the USU Faculty of Forestry is responsible for preparing and implementing an excellent learning system for the nation’s next generation. Forestry graduates from the USU Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program must understand and apply JUARA attitudes and characters, namely Honest, Superior, Religious, Respectful, and Adaptive, so they can compete and synergize with alumni of other universities nationally and internationally. This aligns with the spirit of USU towards World Class University (WCU) with the tagline “Transformation Towards the Ultimate,” armed with the competitive advantage of TALENTA and the main values of BINTANG.

In facing the challenges of technological development, the demands of society, and the world of work, the Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program continuously adapts to existing developments through curriculum restructuring. The current curriculum of the USU Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program is prepared based on the latest actual practices and experiences in the field. Information from alumni, graduate users, stakeholders, and the USU Faculty of Forestry’s academic community becomes essential information in designing course structures following the development of science, knowledge, and technology. The curriculum with an outcome-based education (OBE) approach with the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program will guide the implementation of higher education in the USU Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program, which can answer the challenges of changing times that are volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity or anomalies, uncertainty, complexity, and also vagueness. Thus, it is hoped that the USU Bachelor Degree of Forestry Study Program can produce graduates who follow the ideals of the institution and can compete in the job market, as well as participate in efforts to educate the nation’s life through the Three Pillars of Higher Education, namely teaching, research, and community service.
