The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) built a temporary nursery at the USU Bekala Campus to acclimate rare tree seedlings.

FACULTY OF FORESTRY PR – The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has carried out a community service activity titled “Establishment of a Temporary Nursery as an Effort to Acclimate Rare Tree Seedlings.” The activity took place in Kwala Bekala Village, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province.

The implementation team consisted of lecturers from various fields of expertise within the Faculty of Forestry, with Novita Anggraini, S.Hut., M.Sc., serving as the program coordinator. The main objective of this initiative is to support the acclimatization process of rare tree species through the establishment of a temporary nursery.

The nursery was constructed near the USU Kwala Bekala Campus area and measures 3 x 5 meters. The main construction materials include lightweight steel, PVC pipes, and paranet netting, which serves to protect the seedlings from direct sunlight and maintain humidity, preventing environmental stress on the plants. The construction process began with site clearing, followed by structural planning and the installation of supporting components.

This program is expected to enhance the contribution of the USU Faculty of Forestry in preserving local plant biodiversity and supporting national conservation efforts. Through this initiative, the Faculty reaffirms its role as a pioneer in natural resource conservation and sustainable environmental education.
