On Thursday, 8th June 2023, USU Faculty of Forestry community service team launched village development program in 2023 with the theme “Precision Village Data Development in Supporting Natural Resource-Based Village Development and Community Participation” at Rumah Sumbul Village, Sibolangit Subdistrict, Deli Serdang District.
 

The Team Program of Village Development USU consists of Dr. Oding Affandi as the chief executive, Dr. Bejo Slamet as Coordinator of Spatial Planning and Precision Village Data, Dr. Ridwanti Batubara and Dr. Luthfi Hakim as Coordinator of Creative Economics, as well as Ismayadi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes. And Ridhoi Meilona Purba, S.Psi., M.Si. as the Coordinator of Institutional Strengthening.
 

When Village Development Program was launched, Dr. Meutia Nauli, the secretary of LPPM USU, and Destanul Auli, Ph.D. were present. In addition to that, there were also the representative of Bappelitbang North Sumatera, the representative of Deli Serdang Regency Government, the district authority, The official governments of Rumah Sumbul Village, the tribe leader, the community leader, the religious leader, karang taruna, as well as students from Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) USU program. 
 

Dr. Meutia Nauly, S.Psi., M.Si., Secretary of LPPM USU Psychologist, explained that the Village Development Program is part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially the aspect of community service (PPM). This Village Development Program is a form and implementation of higher education in assisting the acceleration of development at the lowest level, which is the village. The hope of this program is to have an impact on economic improvement and community welfare.
 

Dr. Oding Affandi, S.Hut., M.P., The Chief Executive, conveyed the purpose of the Village Development Program is to foster villages and their communities in order to cultivate the wealth of local natural resources in the village so that they become independent and prosperous village and help solve problems faced by the community that are comprehensive and multisectoral in order to create a more prosperous village community through his presentation.
 

 

The purpose of this program is to realize the independence and welfare of the community based on optimizing the potential of existing resources in the village. In order to achieve these objectives, three main tasks will be carried out to build Precision Village Data, namely data with a high level of accuracy and precision to describe the actual condition of the village using a spatial data approach to support the realization of a village-level E-governance system, agro-ecotourism-based community creative economic development, and institutional strengthening and the role of the community in village development.
 

In the first year of this program, the Village Development Program will develop a package of nature tourism locations, where lake tourism, fruit orchards, honey bee cultivation, historical tourism, hiking, and environmental education will be developed. 

 

At the same time, business outlets will also be built as a place to sell creative products, such as processed palm products, processed honey products, medicinal products, and herbal drinks, as well as handicrafts and agricultural products. To ensure the success of this program, a legal entity will be formed at the village scale as well as the implementation of education and training for the community’s business owners.
