HUMAS FAHUTA - The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), received representatives from PTPN IV, Rendi and Yolan, on Monday (24/8/2026) at the Meeting Room of the Faculty of Forestry Study Program, USU Campus 2 Bekala, Deli Serdang. The visit was conducted to carry out wood sample testing at the Forest Products Technology (THH) Laboratory of the USU Faculty of Forestry.
The PTPN IV representatives were welcomed by the Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Academic Infrastructure of the USU Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Luthfi Hakim, together with the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry, Dr. Evalina Herawati. Also present was Wahyuni Pulungan, S.Hut., a laboratory technician at the USU Faculty of Forestry.
The wood sample testing was conducted to obtain data on several characteristics and parameters required by PTPN IV. The parameters to be tested included wood specific gravity, moisture content, and the conversion of rubber into tons.
As part of the testing preparation, the USU Faculty of Forestry and PTPN IV held a technical discussion regarding the form and condition of the samples to be tested. The discussion also covered the expected testing results to ensure that the analysis process could be carried out according to the specified requirements and parameters.
The testing was conducted at the Forest Products Technology (THH) Laboratory of the USU Faculty of Forestry, which is accredited under SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN). Supported by modern laboratory equipment and competent human resources in their respective fields, the THH Laboratory can support various testing and research activities related to forest products technology.
The visit by PTPN IV demonstrates the utilization of the facilities and academic capacity of the USU Faculty of Forestry to support testing needs in the forestry and plantation sectors. The testing results are expected to provide measurable information on the analyzed samples and support PTPN IV’s needs in managing and utilizing resources more appropriately.
The activity also aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the utilization of laboratory facilities and testing technology to support business sectors based on scientific data. In addition, the activity reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between higher education institutions and the business sector.
