Chair of P2EH, Dr. Luthfi Hakim, stated that coordination with all stakeholders is an important step in supporting the smooth implementation of the activity and providing optimal learning experiences for students.

HUMAS FAHUTAN – The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), conducted an audience meeting related to the implementation of the Forest Ecosystem Introduction Practice (P2EH) on Wednesday (10/6/2026) via Zoom Meeting. This activity aimed to finalize preparations and align the understanding of all parties involved in the field practice of students in the Tangkahan area, Gunung Leuser National Park, North Sumatra.

The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Prof. Arida Susilowati, representatives of the Gunung Leuser National Park Authority (TNGL), the Tangkahan Ecotourism management, Chair of P2EH Dr. Luthfi Hakim, the organizing committee, and student representatives. During the meeting, various aspects of the P2EH implementation were the main focus of discussion. The discussion took place interactively, covering implementation techniques, student learning agendas, socio-economic studies of communities around forest areas, vegetation analysis, and various other technical aspects to ensure the activity runs effectively and achieves the established learning objectives.

The Chair of P2EH, Dr. Luthfi Hakim, stated that coordination with all stakeholders is an important step in supporting the smooth implementation of the activity and providing optimal learning experiences for students. Through this field practice, students not only gain theoretical understanding of forest ecosystems but also obtain direct experience in observing field conditions and conducting various observation and analysis activities.

This audience meeting and P2EH implementation are also aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Quality Education. Through structured field practice activities, students are given the opportunity to integrate classroom knowledge with real field experience. This learning approach is expected to enhance students’ competencies, skills, and insights in understanding forest ecosystems comprehensively.

In addition, this activity also supports SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals. The implementation of P2EH represents collaboration between the Faculty of Forestry USU, the Gunung Leuser National Park Authority (TNGL), particularly through cooperation with the Tangkahan Ecotourism management. This partnership is expected to strengthen synergy between educational institutions and conservation area managers in supporting learning processes, research, and environmental conservation efforts sustainably.

Dean of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Prof. Arida Susilowati, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in supporting the development of forestry education that is adaptive to current challenges. Through P2EH, students are expected to understand the complexity of forest ecosystem management while building their character as professional, responsible foresters who care about environmental sustainability.

With strong coordination and synergy among all involved parties, P2EH is expected to become an effective learning platform in producing forestry graduates who are capable of contributing to sustainable natural resource management.
