The Forest Management Student Association (FORMASA) of the Faculty of Forestry Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully organized the GreenShift Forum 2026 seminar, discussing climate change, environmental technology, and sustainable forest management as efforts to enhance students’ knowledge and innovation spirit in forestry studies.

FAHUTAN PUBLIC RELATIONS — The Forest Management Student Association (FORMASA) of the Faculty of Forestry Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully held the GreenShift Forum 2026 seminar on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Faculty of Forestry lecture room. The event, held from 08:00 to 12:00 WIB, carried the theme “From Forest Insight to Future Impact” with the tagline “Insight, Innovation, Impact.”

The seminar served as a discussion platform for students to broaden their understanding of strategic forestry issues, particularly climate change, social forestry, environmental technology, and innovations in sustainable forest management for the future.

Participants included students of the Forest Management specialization (MNH) cohort 2023, as well as Faculty of Forestry students from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts, with a total of 49 participants.

The event began with remarks from the Chairperson of the Committee, Greselia Purba, who expressed appreciation to all parties who supported the seminar’s implementation. This was followed by remarks from the President of FORMASA, Muhammad Farhan, who hoped the activity would serve as a platform for expanding knowledge, innovation, and student enthusiasm in the field of forestry.

Next, remarks were delivered by the advisor of FORMASA, Samsuri, who emphasized the important role of young forestry professionals in addressing climate change challenges and ensuring the sustainability of forest management.

The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Tito Sucipto, who appreciated the students’ initiative in creating an academic forum relevant to current global environmental issues.

In the seminar, Samsuri presented material on the use of technology in addressing climate change. He explained that technological development plays a crucial role in supporting more effective, efficient, and sustainable forest management through environmental monitoring and data-driven decision-making.

The next presentation was delivered by Bejo Slamet, who discussed social forestry as a strategic approach to preserving forests while improving the welfare of communities living around forest areas. He emphasized that active community involvement in sustainable forest management is an important step in supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Meanwhile, Jonatan Situmeume discussed forestry perspectives on ecological crises as well as career opportunities in the forestry sector. He explained that forestry offers broad career prospects, ranging from conservation work, environmental NGOs, government agencies, to technological fields such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing.

The implementation of the GreenShift Forum 2026 also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly United Nations SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Through this activity, it is expected that students of the Faculty of Forestry USU will further understand strategic environmental issues, develop an innovative mindset, and actively contribute to achieving sustainable forest management in the future.
