USU Forestry Alumni inaugurated IKAHUT’s 2017–2020 board in the Faculty of Forestry Hall. This event fosters networking and encourages alumni contributions to Indonesia’s forestry sector.

The Forestry Alumni of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) inaugurated the IKAHUT board in the Faculty of Forestry Hall on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. IKAHUT Chairman Susilo Sudarman, S.Hut., M.Si., an alumnus of the 2001 cohort, currently works in a leading private forestry company in Sumatra.

The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, vice deans, lecturers, and students. USU Forestry alumni are now spread across Indonesia, including in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, and Papua. This achievement demonstrates their ability to compete in various fields. Since its establishment, USU's Forestry program has graduated over a thousand alumni actively contributing to sustainable forest management.

The inauguration was also witnessed by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Siti Latifah, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., who serves as the Advisory Board of IKAHUT USU. In her speech, she emphasized that alumni, students, lecturers, and staff are three inseparable pillars. Alumni are expected to act as catalysts, contributors, and "iron stock."

As catalysts, alumni strengthen relationships with their alma mater, students, society, and government or private institutions. As contributors, they can provide material support, such as educational tools, or non-material contributions, such as seminars, training, or alumni-sharing sessions. As "iron stock," alumni serve as a pool of future-ready, high-quality human resources.

In his speech, IKAHUT Chairman Susilo emphasized that IKAHUT serves as a platform for alumni networking and a forum for sharing ideas to support Indonesia’s forestry sector. The IKAHUT board consists of seven divisions:

  1. Family Relations
  2. Member Development, Institutional, and Organizational Affairs
  3. Fundraising and Welfare
  4. Media, Information, and Communication
  5. Research and Community Empowerment
  6. Inter-Institutional Relations and Partnerships
  7. Forestry Policy and Development Studies

Each division will design programs to enhance alumni contributions to society. Salam Rimbawan!
