Mr. Onrizal, Ph.D. is an associate professor of tropical forest ecology and biodiversity conservation at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), with extensive experience in tropical forest ecology and biodiversity conservation more than 25 years, not only in Indonesia but also in South East Asia countries. He was involved in various activities of tropical forest ecology and biodiversity conservation studies funded by national and international bodies. He also serves several ecological restorations and community engagement in environmental services and habitat restoration. He has long experience working with governments, business organizations, communities, and NGOs at the local, national, and international levels. He has experience working with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, various local governments, international organizations/bodies (such as USAID, JICA, KOIKA, and the World Bank), local communities, and NGOs (local, national, and international levels) in various locations, in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar. As an associate professor, he gives lectures and practices, including courses for ecology, restoration, and biodiversity conservation of tropical forests, including primatologists at undergraduate and graduate levels. He also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students for their thesis at USU and several universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the UK.
