The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Socialization and Mentoring Program for the Submission of DPPM 2026 Research Proposals on Friday, 19 December 2025. The activity aimed to improve lecturers’ readiness and the quality of research proposals in preparation for the 2026 research funding scheme.
FORESTRY PR – The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), organized a Socialization and Mentoring Program for the Submission of DPPM 2026 Research Proposals on Friday, 19 December 2025, at the Faculty of Forestry Meeting Room, USU. This activity was part of the faculty’s strategic efforts to enhance both the quality and quantity of lecturers’ research proposals in order to compete effectively in national research funding schemes in 2026.
The activity was opened with remarks from the Dean of the USU Faculty of Forestry, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM., who emphasized the importance of academic community readiness in welcoming 2026 as a momentum for strengthening research. He conveyed that the USU Faculty of Forestry has shown high enthusiasm in submitting research proposals, in line with the increasing number of ministry-funded research grants successfully obtained by lecturers. According to him, available research opportunities must be optimally utilized to produce studies that have tangible impacts on society and the environment.
Subsequent remarks were delivered by the Vice Rector III of USU, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., who emphasized that DPPM socialization activities are deliberately conducted directly at faculties to ensure that information regarding research funding opportunities is thoroughly conveyed. She highlighted that many funding opportunities are often missed, both by lecturers and by master’s and doctoral students. “Research funding is substantial and diverse. If it is not carefully examined from the beginning, the opportunity may be missed. That is why reviewers and mentoring teams are directly involved to better prepare lecturers,” she stated.
Entering the main session, participants received proposal development mentoring through a presentation entitled “Call for Proposal for the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM) Research Program 2026”, delivered by Prof. Saharman Gea, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of accuracy in administrative selection, which often becomes the main point of proposal failure. Out of hundreds of proposals submitted each year, approximately half fail at the initial stage due to administrative negligence. Therefore, careful adherence to technical guidelines is a key factor for success.
The activity was attended by the Vice Dean II, Dr. Ir. Pindi Patana, S.Hut., M.Sc., IPU., and Vice Dean III, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Purwoko, S.Hut., M.Si., the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry, Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng., heads of laboratories, and lecturers of the USU Faculty of Forestry. Through this workshop, the USU Faculty of Forestry hopes that more lecturers will be encouraged to prepare high-quality, impactful research proposals aligned with national priorities, while strengthening USU’s role as a center for scientific development and forestry-based disaster solutions.
