The USU Faculty of Forestry organized an International General Lecture and MoU-MoA signing with Seoul National University to promote environmental conservation and forest restoration in the era of climate crisis. The event featured Prof. Ho Sang Kang, Ph.D., who discussed the importance of global collaboration in dealing with climate change.

FAHUTAN PR - The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an International General Lecture and MoU-MoA Signing event with the topic “University Cooperation for Environmental Conservation and Forest Restoration in the Era of Climate Crisis”. The event took place on Monday, (11/11/2024) in the Acacia Room, Faculty of Forestry USU, USU Bekala Campus and was attended by lecturers and students.

The event featured a keynote speaker from Korea, Prof. Ho Sang Kang, Ph.D., Executive Director, Asia Forest Institute Collaboration Professor, Institutes of Green-Bio Science and Technology (GBST), Seoul National University, who shared the latest insights on the importance of global collaboration for forest ecosystem restoration. In the public lecture, Prof. Ho Sang Kang, Ph.D. highlighted the role of universities in facing the challenges of the climate crisis through research and innovation based on environmental conservation.

The event began with the opening by the Moderator, Dr. Agr. Faujiah Nurhasanah Ritonga, S.Hut., M.Si., with opening remarks from the Vice Chancellor for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan S.Si., M.Si., Apt., who said that cooperation between countries and higher education institutions is an important step in developing long-term sustainability solutions for the global environment. On this occasion, the USU Faculty of Forestry also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Seoul National University and handed over certificates and souvenirs by each party.

The public lecture sessions included in-depth discussions on sustainable forest restoration technologies and approaches, as well as how climate change is affecting forest resources around the world. At the end of the event, the various parties signed a joint declaration of commitment to environmental conservation, as a symbol of their strong intention in contributing to forest preservation and climate change mitigation.

The event ended with a group photo with the hope that this international cooperation can strengthen environmental conservation and restoration efforts at the global level, while inspiring the younger generation to care more about environmental sustainability.
