USU's Faculty of Forestry hosted three guest lectures on forestry, conservation, and mangrove research with national and international experts. Enriching insights for academic excellence.

To enhance knowledge capacity and broaden perspectives on forestry for its academic community, the Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) organized three guest lecture events between February and March 2018.

The first event was held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, featuring Dr. Ety Ginoga, the Head of the Forestry Research and Development Center (KLHK Bogor), as the keynote speaker. The lecture covered the theme “The Role of Research and Development in Forest Development, Export Enhancement, and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction.” In addition to delivering the lecture, Dr. Ety Ginoga signed a collaboration agreement with the Faculty of Forestry, represented by the Dean, Dr. Siti Latifah.

The second event took place on Friday, March 9, 2018, with a speaker from the Public Relations Bureau of KLHK, represented by the Head of the Presentation and Public Information Service Division. The topic presented was “Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems in Indonesia.” Students showed great enthusiasm, demonstrated by the number of questions they asked. The event was made more engaging with the distribution of souvenirs, including animal-themed pins and conservation books.

The third guest lecture was held on Monday, March 12, 2018. The Faculty of Forestry, through its Department of Forest Cultivation, invited two international speakers: Dr. Thorsten Balke from the University of Glasgow and Dr. Pete Bunting from Aberystwyth University. This lecture was part of a research collaboration led by the Head of the Forest Cultivation Department, M. Basyuni, Ph.D. The session focused on the theme “Monitoring Mangrove Extent & Services (MOMENTS): What is Controlling Tipping Points?”
