From 6th to 8th September 2023, the Faculty of Agriculture USU community service team provides training on developing Processed purun Products for Mekar Jaya Village, Wampu Subdistrict, Langkat District community for 3 days. The team leader is Dr. Ridwanti Batubara, S.Hut., M.P., and her members are Dr. Ir. Luthfi Hakim, S.Hut., M.Si., I.PU; Dr. Oding Affandi, S.Hut., M.P., and Dr. Saleha Hannum, S.Si., M.Si. Besides the USU community service team, this program was also attended by the government of Mekar Jaya Village and its purun craftsmen.
This community service program 2023 is a continuation of the community service program in 2022 in which its main activity was education on the processing of purun as crafting materials, the steps of processing purun until they are produced, as well as gifting tools of processing purun, including purun flattener and purun sewing machine.
This year, the training continues on various processed purun products. Participants are trained not only to make various weaved purun products but develop several products made using technological aids such as electric sewing machines. These products include hats, wallets, bags, tissue holders, sandals, etc.
The hope of this training is for the community purun craftsman to be able to make various purun products into products with high market value. With various high-market-value products, it will improve the welfare of the community.
