On Saturday, 23rd September 2023, the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Faculty of Forestry community service team held a community service activity with the theme “Training on the Development of Fruit Plants in Pots (Tabulampot)” in Lingkungan IV, Gedung Johor Urban Village, Medan Johor District, Medan City.
 

This activity was attended by Dr. Oding Affandi as the Chief Executive of the community service team, Dr. Bejo Slamet, and Dr. Ridwanti Batubara as members. The Head of Al-Fadhli Collage Foundation and School also attended as the selected partner. In addition, the Head of Lingkungan IV, representatives of Gedung Johor Urban Village, community leaders, Karang Taruna administrators, as well as USU Faculty of Forestry students.
 

The series of community service activities began with socialization activities combined with the practice of making tabulampot as well as the distribution of trees, pots, and planting media to participants for free. In this practical activity, the community was quite enthusiastic in following it, discussing and asking questions about planting, fertilization process, and pest prevention. 
 

In this activity, the fruits grown from the tabulampot are mango, longan, and avocado. The trees that were distributed have developed and learning to bear fruit, thus increasing the participants’ enthusiasm for taking part in this program. After doing the practical with tabulampot, participants of this activity get one fruit tree, two sacks of compost, and one pot 60cm in diameter.
