The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the Coaching for PKM 2025 Proposal Preparation on January 23-24 at USU Kwala Bekala Campus to guide students in drafting high-quality proposals that can secure national funding and qualify for the 38th National Scientific Week (PIMNAS). The event was attended by faculty leaders, expert speakers, and 20 faculty mentors. Out of 455 creative ideas, 37 proposals were selected for intensive training. This initiative is expected to increase the number of funded proposals and encourage student creativity in the forestry sector.
FORESTRY PR– USU Faculty of Forestry held the Coaching for Student Creativity Program (PKM) 2025 Proposal Preparation on January 23-24, 2025. The event took place at Akasia Classroom, USU Kwala Bekala Campus, with the goal of guiding students in drafting high-quality PKM proposals that meet national standards.
The event was attended by Dr. Alfan Gunawan Ahmad, S.Hut., M.Si. (Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Forestry, USU), Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng. (Head of the Forestry Study Program), and Dr. Ir. Luthfi Hakim, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng. (Coordinator of PKM Corner, Faculty of Forestry). The coaching session featured expert speakers, including Ir. Erni Misran, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., and Dr. Rini Hardiyanti, S.TP., from the PKM Center Unit at USU.
Vice Dean I, Dr. Alfan Gunawan Ahmad, emphasized that this event is part of the faculty’s efforts to increase the number of PKM proposals successfully securing national funding. He also highlighted that through this coaching program, students are expected to produce innovative and competitive proposals capable of competing at the national level.
"In 2023, two PKM proposals from Forestry Faculty students received funding from Belmawa Kemendikbud. In 2024, one proposal received funding from Kemendikbud. In 2025, the Faculty of Forestry at USU aims to secure funding for at least 10 PKM proposals and qualify for the 38th PIMNAS at Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar," said Dr. Alfan Gunawan Ahmad.
Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, Head of the Forestry Study Program, added that this coaching session is part of the faculty’s strategy to cultivate a research and innovation culture among students. Meanwhile, Dr. Ir. Luthfi Hakim, Coordinator of PKM Corner, expressed hope that this event would increase the number of Forestry students securing PKM funding and qualifying for the National Scientific Week (PIMNAS) competition.
"The PKM Proposal Preparation Coaching started with an idea screening process from Forestry students. From the 455 submitted ideas, 200 ideas were selected for PKM proposal drafting. Among these, 37 proposal titles were chosen to participate in this coaching session. A total of 20 faculty members from the Forestry Undergraduate Program at USU served as mentors for the PKM teams. By participating in this PKM coaching, we hope that the PKM teams will successfully obtain funding from Kemendikti Saintek and qualify for the 38th PIMNAS at Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar. This way, students can maximize the value of their tuition fees, gaining the experience and confidence to compete in PKM and PIMNAS," he stated.
Over two days, participants received training on proposal writing techniques, idea selection strategies, and tips to pass the national selection process. Interactive discussions were also conducted, allowing students to engage directly with expert speakers.
With the high enthusiasm of participants, this coaching session is expected to encourage Forestry students at USU to actively develop creative ideas and contribute to research and innovation in the forestry sector.
