FAHUTAN PR – The Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an International Guest Lecture as part of the Forestry Policies and Regulations course. The lecture featured a strategic topic titled “Sustainable Aviation Fuel Feedstocks: Evaluation of Tropical Oilseed Trees”, delivered by international speaker Darshi Banan, Ph.D., a Postdoctoral Researcher on Biomass Resources at the Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute, University of Hawai‘i, United States.

Through this guest lecture, participants were invited to explore the potential of biological resources, particularly tropical oilseed trees, as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel source. The topic aligns with global issues surrounding energy transition and the role of the forestry sector in supporting environmental sustainability.

This event also forms part of the USU Faculty of Forestry’s ongoing efforts to internationalize its curriculum and enhance global academic collaboration. It is hoped that guest lectures such as this will broaden students' perspectives in addressing the challenges of climate change and future energy transitions.
