Located at Plaza Rimbawan, Faculty of Forestry Campus of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Bekala, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, on Friday, May 03, 2024, the Faculty of Forestry of USU launched the establishment of the Center for Climate Change and Disaster Management Studies.

Located at Plaza Rimbawan, Faculty of Forestry Campus of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Bekala, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, on Friday, May 03, 2024, the Faculty of Forestry of USU launched the establishment of the Center for Climate Change and Disaster Management Studies. The launching was marked by the submission of the Decree of the Dean of the USU Faculty of Forestry Number 494/UN5.2.2.15/KPM/2024 dated April 25, 2024 concerning the Establishment of the Center for Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation Studies (PIMB) from Dr. Ir. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM as Dean of the USU Faculty of Forestry to Dr. Achmad Siddik Thoha, S.Hut., M.Si as Executive Director of the PIMB Study Center. 

Also witnessing the handover of the Puska PIMB decree was Dr. Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan as Deputy for Climatology - Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of the Republic of Indonesia who also serves as Vice President, Commission for Weather, Climate, Water and Related Environmental Services and Applications, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Dr. Hendro Nugroho, S.T., M.Si as Head of the Center for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region I - Medan, and Dr. Ir. Alfan Gunawan Ahmad, S.Hut., M.Si as Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Forestry USU who is also the Executive Secretary of Puska PIMB Faculty of Forestry USU. The launching of Puska PIMB is one of a series of events in commemoration of the 74th World Meteorological Day with the theme “At The Frontline of Climate Action”. 

After this launch, the Dean of the USU Faculty of Forestry hopes that Puska PIMB can immediately develop programs and activities as a follow-up to the cooperation agreement between the USU Faculty of Forestry and BBMKG Region I Medan, which each leader recently signed. The launch of Puska PIMB also provides momentum for the USU Faculty of Forestry to provide global support in controlling climate change through Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi activities.
