The collaboration between the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in partnership with the Integrated Laboratory, Bamboo Research Center (PUI Bambu), and the Green Building Knowledge Cluster, successfully hosted the Summer Course titled "Bamboo for Biodiversity, Environment, and Livelihood International Summer Course."
This event was held over four days, from October 23 to 26, 2023, featuring two days of classroom sessions and two days of fieldwork. The indoor activities took place at the USU Rectorate Bureau Conference Room and the Integrated Laboratory, while the fieldwork was conducted at Ladang and Ecolodge Bukit Lawang in Langkat.
The Summer Course featured distinguished educators, researchers, and bamboo practitioners as speakers, including Prof. Dr. Elizabeth A. Widjaja, M.Sc. (LIPI), Dr. Lee Sheng Hua (UiTM Malaysia), Dr. Rangabhashiyam Selvasembian (SRM University, India), David Trujillo, CEng (Coventry University, UK), Dr. Ir. Samsuri, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM (Faculty of Forestry USU), Dr. Ar. Achmad Delianur Nasution, S.T., M.T., IAI., AA., IAP., GP (Faculty of Engineering USU), Prof. Dr. Widya Fatriasari, S.Hut., M.Si. (BRIN), Desy Ekawati, S.Hut., M.Si. (Ministry of Environment and Forestry), Dr. Yulianto Purwono Prihatmaji, S.T., M.T., IPM., IAI (Faculty of Engineering UII), and Ir. Ali Awaludin, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPU., ACPE (Faculty of Engineering UGM).
Participants included USU students, UiTM students, SRM University students, lecturers, researchers, architects, engineers, and practitioners. Some attended in person, while others joined online via Zoom Meeting.
The speakers shared a wealth of knowledge, insights, experiences, and expertise. The program not only covered theoretical concepts but also provided concrete examples of practical applications.
