The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, actively participated in the tree-planting event organized by the North Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA) to commemorate the 2025 Foresters' Service Day at USU Campus 2 Kwala Bekala, Deli Serdang, on Friday, February 28, 2025.
FAHUTAN Public Relations – In celebration of the 42nd Foresters' Service Day in 2025, the North Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA), in collaboration with the North Sumatra Provincial Environmental and Forestry Office, the Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara, KLHK Regional Technical Implementation Units (UPT) in North Sumatra, and the BBKSDA Sumut Dharma Wanita Persatuan, held a tree-planting event at USU Campus 2 Bekala on Friday (28/02).
Carrying the theme "Foresters' Solidarity Corps for Sustainable Forests," this initiative aims to reduce the risks of hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides while raising awareness of the importance of reforestation. A total of 100 tree seedlings, including mango, rambutan, jackfruit, and cempedak, were planted along the USU Bekala ring road.
In her speech, the Head of BBKSDA North Sumatra, Novita Kusuma Wardani, S.Hut., M.AP., M.Env., stated, "This activity is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to environmental conservation."
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, USU, Prof. Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for this collaboration as a concrete step in strengthening environmental conservation awareness. "As an academic institution, we are committed to continuously supporting initiatives focused on forest and environmental sustainability. This activity also serves as direct education for students on the importance of taking real action in ecosystem preservation," he said.
The event was attended by representatives from various related institutions who participated in the tree-planting activity. It is hoped that this reforestation effort will provide long-term benefits for the environment and the surrounding community. Moreover, this concrete action is expected to inspire the broader community to continue protecting and preserving forests for a better environment.
